Introduction
The Compass is an all-new compact SUV that takes Jeep in a whole new direction with a vehicle aimed at those who spend more time in an urban environment by combining the functionality of a sport-utility vehicle with the performance, handling, fuel economy and price of a compact car. With traditional Jeep styling, the Compass features a Jeep seven-slot grille, round headlights and trapezoidal wheel openings. The windshield is steeply raked and the side profile shows the uniquely sculpted fender shapes with standard 17-inch aluminum wheels or optional 18-inch wheels.
New for 2007
The 2007 Jeep Compass is powered by a 172-horsepower 2.4-liter engine with either a standard 5-speed manual transmission or an optional second-generation Continuously Variable Transaxle (CVT2). The Compass Limited with CVT2 offers the AutoStick feature that allows drivers to control the transmission manually so that it simulates a 6-speed automatic. The CVT2 is expected to improve fuel economy 6 to 8 percent compared to a traditional 4-speed automatic. A full-time active 4-wheel-drive system is available and includes a “Lock” mode for use on low-traction surfaces. Standard equipment includes side-curtain airbags, ESP, traction control, fog lights and YES Essentials fabric for the interior.
