Although it is competitive, the RL does not stand out in the luxury-sedan class. Power comes from a 290-hp, V6 engine. The all-wheel-drive system is designed to reduce understeer, but handling is neither more agile nor more secure than the competition. The interior is well crafted but the cabin feels a bit tight and interior room is only slightly better than the less costly TL. The driver-interaction system, which controls the audio and navigation systems, isn't particularly easy to use, but incorporates real-time traffic reports from satellite radio into the navigation system in some metropolitan areas. Reliability has been average.
