The A8 is a pleasant and capable luxury car, with a strong 4.2-liter V8 and six-speed automatic that provide effortless power. A 6.0-liter, 12-cylinder is available and the sporty S8 has a 5.2-liter V10. This AWD sedan has responsive and secure handling, but the ride is stiffer than other luxury sedans. The interior is very quiet, with impeccable fit and finish. The front seats are extremely comfortable and supportive, and the rear seat is expansive. The Multi Media Interface (MMI) driver-interaction system is somewhat easier to use than BMW's awkward iDrive, but not by much. Reliability remains below average.
